It’s been a long road. . .
Ladder 1 was ordered in March 2005. It’s a custom rebuild of a former FDNY rig. This was necessitated by the small bays in the RFD’s station. Newer rigs will not fit in the building.

Ladder 1 was placed in service on October 1, 2006. It carries FDNY shop #SL8506 and previously served at Ladder 36 in Manhattan.

It is dedicated to the memory of Murray Adams, Leonard Cook, and Harvey Saunders, who were instrumental in obtaining RFD’s original ladder in 1948.

The Ladder also carries a dedication in memory of FDNY  Lt. Meyran and FF Bellew, both of Ladder 27, who gave their lives in the line of duty on January 23, 2005 in the Bronx, and a memorial to the 343 brother firefighters who were murdered on September 11, 2001.
